Imposter Syndrome Sucks

Imposter Syndrome - the persistent inability to believe that one's success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of one's own efforts or skills.

Y’all, imposter syndrome sucksss.

It wreaks havoc on our hopes and dreams, leading us to seek validation from external sources rather than trusting in our own abilities. But here's the thing: imposter syndrome may come and go, but it doesn't have to control our lives. To defeat imposter syndrome, we must first recognize and acknowledge the negative thoughts that arise. It's crucial to understand that these thoughts and feelings are just that—feelings. They are not facts. While self-doubt is natural, it should not define who we are or undermine our accomplishments.

When imposter syndrome comes to mess with you, remind yourself of where you started. This has helped me immensely. We grow everyday without even realizing and sometimes it’s absolutely necessary to take a step back and recognize the growth that we’ve experienced over time.

Embracing failure is another aspect I'm learning to navigate. As someone driven by my competitive nature, I've always strived to excel. But I'm realizing that failure is not a setback; it's a stepping stone to greater heights. Our failures do not define us; they propel us forward.

When I started opening up about imposter syndrome I was surprised to see many of my friends and family were going through the same exact thoughts and feelings. It helps to share your thoughts with people you trust because you start to realize that it’s a very common feeling and can help to alleviate your burden. Every time one of our couples sends in their reactions and reviews, I cherish them because all those hours and late nights become so worth it. I recognize that I was able to make someone smile, maybe bring back memories of a loved one that’s passed, or even cause tears of happiness. Hold on to those words and reactions because it shows you are exactly where you’re meant to be in your journey.

Remember your failures do not define you nor are you defined by the external validation and accolades. You are you so embrace your authentic self.
